Impact of DEM uncertainty on TITAN2D flow model output, Galeras Volcano, Colombia

چکیده
In this paper we study the impact of errors and uncertainties in digital elevation models on the analysis of hazardous mass flows at Galeras volcano in Colombia. The increasing use of computer models and software has made it imperative that the effect of errors in digital elevation models which crucially determine the flow characteristics be quantified. We illustrate in this paper the significant effect of such errors and also attempt to correlate these to flow features.

Six volcanologists and three tourists were killed in the crater of Galeras Volcano, Colombia, when it erupted without warning. The scientists were attending the United Nations International Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction Workshop which had been convened to improve monitoring, research and disaster mitigation at Galeras, at the time the most active and one of the most hazardous volcanoes ...
متن کاملWater Quality Model Output Uncertainty as Affected by Spatial Resolution of Input Data
Resolution of the input GIS data used to parameterize distributed-parameter hydrologic/water quality models may affect uncertainty in model outputs and impact the subsequent application of model results in watershed management. In this study we evaluated the impact of varying spatial resolutions of DEM, land use, and soil data (30 x 30 m, 100 x 100 m, 150 x 150 m, 200 x 200 m, 300 x 300 m, 500 ...
متن کاملEffects of Digital Elevation Models (DEM) Spatial Resolution on Hydrological Simulation
Digital Elevation Model is one of the most important data for watershed modeling whit hydrological models that it has a significant impact on hydrological processes simulation. Several studies by the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) as useful Tool have indicated that the simulation results of this model is very sensitive to the quality of topographic data. The aim of this study is evaluati...
متن کاملClimate Change Impact on Precipitation Extreme Events in Uncertainty Situation; Passing from Global Scale to Regional Scale
Global warming and then climate change are important topics studied by researchers throughout the world in the recent decades. In these studies, climatic parameters changes are investigated. Considering large-scaled output of AOGCMs and low precision in computational cells, uncertainty analysis is one of the principles in doing hydrological studies. For this reason, it is tried that investigati...
